The Green Bay Packers have added a new safety after signing Jonathan Owens in free agency. Owens last played for the Houston Texans last season.
With safety being a position of need coming into the offseason, the Packers have been adding some depth to bolster this position. Owens is the third safety the Packers have added after previously signing Tarvarius Moore and drafting 7th-round pick Anthony Johnson Jr.

Owens is a fifth-year player who started all 17 games last season for the Texans. He set career highs after recording 125 tackles with 84 solo as they were both good for second on the team. He also recorded a sack and a QB hit to go along with 4 pass breakups.
As of now he fills an immediate need and may even project to be the Packers’ starting safety alongside Darnell Savage. Green Bay has yet to resign Adrian Amos and may have signed Owens as a more affordable replacement and not using a high draft pick on a safety.
Owens had recently got married to Olympic gymnast Simone Biles as they both expressed their excitement on social media of a new beginning in Green Bay.

The Packers have been relatively quiet in free agency this offseason not making any sort of splash signings. All eyes were on the trade of QB Aaron Rodgers but that is in the past.
Green Bay has signed an impact player who immediately projects to start at the strong safety position. Adrian Amos remains a free agent but has received interest from the Baltimore Ravens.
