With the NBA season over for most teams and the Draft Lottery on the horizon, let's take a look back at last year's draft. The Athletic's Sam Vecenie recently published a 2022 NBA Redraft, and to no surprise, he had the Bulls passing on Dalen Terry.
As a rookie, Terry struggled at the NBA level and spent most of his time in the G League. He averaged just 2.2 points, 1 rebound, and 0.6 assists per game in his first season with the Bulls. The Arizona product fared much better in the G League, where he logged 19.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.
Terry may have the makings of a good wing, but his game requires plenty of refining to stick at the NBA level.
In Vecine's redraft, he pegged the Bulls to select guard Andrew Nembhard.
The 23-year-old saw meaningful minutes and averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 assists per game in his rookie season as injuries piled up for the Indiana Pacers. Nembhard's contributions certainly could have helped the Bulls' backcourt depth, especially in Lonzo Ball's absence.
Hypotheticals aren't reality, however, and the Bulls picked their lane with Dalen Terry. The hope is that an offseason of NBA-level training can help him make more of an impact in 2023-24. If he doesn't make strides in his development, he'll only be remembered for his animated reactions as a cheerleader on the Bulls bench.
Arturas Karnisovas has to hope Terry pans out, but the outlook isn't overly promising at this point. His other Bulls draft picks — Patrick Williams, Ayo Dosunmu, and Marko Simonovic — are further along in their respective careers and still haven't met expectations.
