The hot streak had to end at some point, I suppose. After a 15-5 week in strikeout props, I kicked off the new week with an 0-3 dud in which two bets lost by the hook. Let's get back on track with my three favorite strikeout prop bets for Tuesday's MLB slate.
What's going on with Sandy Alcantara? The reigning NL Cy Young winner has the worst ERA (5.08) and the second-worst strikeouts-per-nine mark (7.3) of his career this season. He's cleared five strikeouts just twice in his last seven starts, but this is a good matchup to get him out of his funk. The Boston Red Sox have averaged 11.6 Ks per game in the last week, which is the highest mark in MLB over that span. Let's hope for a vintage Alcantara performance Tuesday night.
There haven't been many bright spots for the Oakland Athletics this season, but Paul Blackburn has been one of them. The 29-year-old is the only starter on the team who hasn't recorded a loss, and he leads the starting rotation in strikeouts per nine innings (10.5). In five starts this season, Blackburn has cleared this number four times. He's also racked up 15 strikeouts in two home starts this year. I'm fine laying the juice here.
Jordan Montgomery has been pitching well lately with 24 strikeouts and just five earned runs over his last four starts, but I don't see that continuing Tuesday. The Houston Astros have recorded the fewest strikeouts per game (6.6) in MLB over the last two weeks, and they have the third-fewest number of strikeouts against lefties (124) this season.
